Platform games are awesome and I'm looking forward to the next gen Sony/Microsoft console. But anyone of you still play Flash games once in a while? I still love to play it but do you feel that flash gaming is decreasing?
What is your favorite site to go for Flash games?
I usually go for Kongregate or Newgrounds but recently found a new website for Bubble Shooter game fans.

Louisville's Kevin Ware suffered a gruesome leg injury during last night's NCAA game against Duke. Although some similar football injuries sprung to mind, many longtime NCAA watchers quickly dubbed this the worst basketball injury they've ever seen.

Happy Sunday monkeys,

I came across a couple of interesting articles over at Bloomberg, written by Jonathan Mahler, one of their sports columnists, that touch on some peculiar happenings during the recent NCAA tournament: Florida Gulf Coast University's historic win streak into the Sweet 16, and Harvard's first tournament win since its inception 371 years ago. The author credits some interesting aspects of these two stories, FGCU's success is credited to none other than Ayn Rand, and Atlas Shrugged in particular, and the latter's success is credited to a rather shrewd move in attracting talent without the use of athletic scholarships.

I'm sure you guys have heard this story by now of the Mom who is wrote a letter advising all women at Princeton to marry their classmates before they graduate. The idea being that the dating pool will never be as strong as it is in school and women shouldn't date/marry someone who is inferior intellectually.

I'd like to point out that she has a son attending Princeton right now. This Mom basically cock-blocked her son for the remainder of his time there, I'm sure. Thanks Mom.

Discuss.

Buzzing BlackBerrys, billion dollar bailouts, and behind the scenes in Basel: How global central bankers battled the crisis
Mar 31st 2013, 17:23

Wonkblog economics editor Neil Irwin has a book coming out this week. "The Alchemists: Three Central Bankers and a World on Fire" (The Penguin Press, available April 4) tells the story of how central bankers came to exert vast influence over the global economy, and how they wielded that power from 2007 to 2012, through the financial crisis and its aftermath. Based on behind-the-scenes reporting that took place 27 cities in 11 countries, the book covers the global reach of the crisis through which the world is still living and puts it in its historical context. The following is an adaptation of a particularly fraught moment in the saga, when in May 2010 central bankers on three continents came together to try to keep Europe from unraveling.

Xbox live speeds
Mar 31st 2013, 16:07

OK... I'm at the point of losing it. I am using a EU Xbox account and bought a 320gb HDD a month ago to finally download all my dlc to my new machine. For the past month I tried 4 different connections 2 ADSL and 2 mobile ones, and the speed is beyond pathetic, it takes 25 minutes to download a 5mb update. wtf is going on?

I tried vodacom, cell c, Telkom and IS ADSL on a 4mbit line and that is the speed I am getting. Normal browsing works fine with the connections on PCs but the Xbox live is so slow!

Now the worst thing is it seems to disconnect when a wired connection is used or when wireless is used, and there isn't an automatic reconnect you have to nurse the thing and tell it to reconnect. WTF is going on! I have more than 60gb that I have to download

dogweek

Hello fellow monkeys !

What's next after last week's record breaking sessions ? Some argue that the SPX and DJIA will be going down, or as an S&P strategist says, "upward moves have generally gotten smaller, which suggests that the move is getting old and that we need a pullback." An indicator of this trend is volatility; the VIX index is up 14.5% over the last two weeks. On the brighter side, however, an estimated 197,000 jobs have been added in March, according to economists. This is a lower figure than last month but would still keep the unemployment at 7.7%. The official figure will be announced on Friday. On top of that, this upcoming week showcases some important indicators for the real estate industry.

As usual, the economic data and releases for this week are after the break.

1st Impressions: Walking Dead Survival Instinct.
Mar 31st 2013, 15:48

Ok so my buddy popped around this morning with The Walking Dead Survival Instinct for PS3 so we gave it a go.

You have to take into account that this was never going to be a AAA game. So there are certain things you should be prepared to overlook and of course others that is simply impossible to.

For starters, the graphics – it's really bad and the first thing you will notice on starting up the game. See some pictures I took directly off my TV with a camera below.
It's especially shocking if you just come off playing a game like Bioshock Infinite which I did – I just finished it this morning (PS3).

The Title Screen already tells you - this is not going to be pretty!

The story follows the brothers Merle and Derryl from the TV series as they work their way to Atlanta.
So it's a prequel to the TV series but you can only play as Derryl and there is no MP. We were kinda expecting some Split Screen action, but there is none of that.

Bland washed out colors + flat grass and leaves textures

You travel between towns and places on the map to find clues and things you need to ultimately make it to Atlanta. Along the way you meet other survivors who you can then choose to take with you – if you have enough space in your car that is – you can find different cars in towns with some having more space but then also using more fuel.

The ones you take with you can help you look for supplies in towns, but not with you, so they will go off on their own and you won't see them again until the end of the mission. A bit strange.

You use up fuel – depending on which route you chose to go, Highways – which have less chance of breakdown but also less chance of stopping for supplies and if you run out you will have to pull over at the closest town to search for more. Back roads use more fuel but you have more opportunities to stop for supplies.

A nice idea but the same towns recycle over and over. So if you pulled over to a town 3 missions back, you will be shocked to find the another town much further down the map that looks EXACLTLY like the town you visited earlier in the game. This really feels cheap and is extremely repetitive.
Only really the main missions have brand new maps and areas. The rest recycle between about 4 areas over and over, making little sense at all.

Dont play this game directly after Bioshock Infinite like I did!
This pic has some screen glare from my window, thus that washed out whiteness at the bottom

This is a survival horror game. You can hardly handle more than 1 zombie at a time and when 3 or more surround you, you are dead for sure. Ammo is highly limited and you really don't want to use guns anyway as gunfire attracts more zombies.

The gameplay is not too bad (feels kinda like Dead Island) but little irritating things like zombies appearing out of thin air can be frustrating as ****. You just cleared an area and out of nowhere a zombie appears right behind you. WTF!

If only I could kill the bad graphics!

So is this game worth playing, sure. But is it worth buying, no. I cannot recommend that anyone buy this game new, but in a bargain bin for R100 maybe – if you love anything zombie like me that is. I would probably play anything with zombies in it.

Overall it is a bad game. But zombie fans may get a little enjoyment out of it. Just don't have high expectations, or any expectations for that matter. There is a reason why Activision did not release review copies to sites and why sites like GT have not and are not reviewing it.

DARE TO COMPARE?:

Here we have a screen shot also taken with a camera directly from my TV of Bioshock Infinite… Its hard to believe its on the same console as Walking Dead Survival Instincts!

You probably chose the top one, even though the two bars—and their accompanying labels—display exactly the same information. The key difference, as one new study in the journal Health Communications finds, is simply the color of the accompanying labels.
