It's potentially a sad end to a franchise brought about by the very same people who supported the original games. Anyone who played DmC 4 (The last entry into the franchise.) would have surely realized how desperately the franchise needed new ideas and a new coat of paint, which Ninja Theory achieved brilliantly. The fans revolted because Capcom dared to reinvent franchise for the 21st century. Now don't get me wrong, I can totally understand why the older fans would have issues with it, but nostalgia can be a very misleading at the best of times
as I have noted in the past. I just don't see why everyone gets so offended by the fact that Capcom is trying to cater for a wider audience.
Games is an evolving media form and sometimes they move in a creative direction we do not like or enjoy but has the potential to attract new blood to the franchise. The existence of this new DmC does not change any of the earlier games in the series, and neither does it compromise the franchise. This is a reboot and it should and must be viewed separately from the original series just like the new Tomb Raider game. And if you view it in that context then it does not have any impact whatsoever on the rest of the franchise. DmC's existence should you choose to ignore it, which I would suggest just to stop this incessant bitching about how "bad" the game is, from the old and new fans.
The age old adage applies, if you don't like it don't listen, watch, read it simple as that. Even better vote with your wallets. Which most of the fans have been doing thus far if you look at the sales figures. But does the game need to be spoiled for other because you did not enjoy it? No. Does deviating from the original combat formula make it a bad game? No. Devil May Cry is a video game people, a pretty amazing reboot if you ask me. I played every single game in the franchise; yes the combat was brilliant but the story? Not so much it was all over the place, no consistency throughout the whole series. Now we actually have a game with a brilliant story and accessible combat that almost anyone can enjoy.
And just for the record "some" of the DmC fanbase is pretty ******* awful, having even gone so far as to
send death threats to Ninja Theory staff because you did not like the changes being made to the franchise. And then going onto a website like Metacritic and slamming the game with low user review scores because you did not get what you wanted. "Some" of these people are throwing a hissy fit because a character in a spin-off series of a very popular franchise does not have blond hair, acts differently and does not have the same back story as the original games. And just mention that you enjoyed DmC over the previous games. And people get onto your ass about how much more difficult the older games are (not true) and how you must be a retard to appreciate a different kind of game.
I am ashamed to be sharing the same type of demographic with a few self-entitled gamers, who think's a game only, revolves around them. Go outside, the sun is shining and get some fresh air. And try DmC: Devil May Cry, because it is a really good (great) video game. Remember how you used to like those?
Tl;dr: Please don't spoil it for the people who enjoyed a fresh view on an old franchise. But having said all of this, it seems not everyone feels the same way I do about it, Azhar from egamer
wrote a article that has the exact opposite point of view than that of my own. Go give it a read maybe you will agree more with what he wrote, or maybe both these articles will make sense to you.
[Editorial Note] I posted this article over the weekend, but was made aware that it was very close to another article posted by someone else, so I decided to pull it and re-write it.
